Bidding and Contracts
Common sources of problems in construction projects (nightmares): Performance
Performance issues include both quality and timeliness of work performed. Builders and architects can do bad work for a variety of reasons, including lack of training or experience, inadequate supervision, haste, or cutting corners to increase profits. Typical performance complaints:
- The contractor hasn't shown up in a week (or month).
- The architect still hasn't finished the drawings.
- The architect designed something that costs twice our budget.
- The contractor left the place a mess (and a nail s/he dropped in the driveway punctured my new Michelin).
