WEST NEWTON HILL
My clients found this Mission Style home on a rare landscaped acre in West Newton. While they appreciate the period detailing, they prefer a cleaner, more contemporary aesthetic. We were challenged to double the size, and create an open floor plan with clean lines while maintaining the proportions and detailed feel of the original.
Our strategy was to maintain but simplify the moldings and detailing, while seamlessly transitioning to more contemporary details. For example, we replaced the elaborate crown molding in the foyer with a simpler cove molding. Whenever possible, we replaced doorways with oversized openings to create views and flow between rooms.
