The existing home ended to the left of the French casement windows. The addition includes a dining room, kitchen, side entrance, 3-car garage with basketball court above, master suite, and kitchen/family room.
Completely revamped foyer
The dining room features cove lighting and backlit display niches.
The custom kitchen includes one-touch, electrically operated, garage-style cabinet doors.
The walnut desk and stair add warmth to the modern colors and materials of the kitchen.
The back stair maintains a traditional look while incorporating contemporary details like the ziz-zag skirting and LED lighting.
In the new design, the kitchen, family room, breakfast room, study, and master suite are oriented to have views of the garden pond.
This peaceful master bedroom contains only a bed, night tables, and a single chair by the fireplace. Both the bedroom, and connected sitting room with media center and bar, open to a roof deck with a view of the gardens and pond.
A wall of glass separates the shower and WC from the main bath area featuring a custom vanity and spa tub.
WEST NEWTON HILL
My clients found this Mission Style home on a rare landscaped acre in West Newton. While they appreciate the period detailing, they prefer a cleaner, more contemporary aesthetic. We were challenged to double the size, and create an open floor plan with clean lines while maintaining the proportions and detailed feel of the original.
Our strategy was to maintain but simplify the moldings and detailing, while seamlessly transitioning to more contemporary details. For example, we replaced the elaborate crown molding in the foyer with a simpler cove molding. Whenever possible, we replaced doorways with oversized openings to create views and flow between rooms.
